Recipes of Resilience: Cooking, Care and Cultural Bridging
In collaboration with artists Chris Treggiari and Justin Hoover, Recipes of Resilience is a social practice project that facilitates food and story-sharing event via community storytelling workshops that revolve around sharing recipes as personal stories of overcoming challenges and triumphing in the face of injustice. The artist team works with pre-arranged members of the community and with the public in public workshops to enliven and connect the community through providing a platform for empowering, documenting and amplifying the voices of the diverse people.
The project takes the form of a custom-designed and built mobile kitchen called the Resilience Community Kitchen, constructed on a camping trailer chassis, and equipped with a custom-built modular dining table that seats 30 people that pops-up out of the trailer. The trailer chassis is a street legal vehicle and transforms into a mobile kitchen, equipped with a series of three mounted flat screen monitors displaying a series of video interviews from project participants. The trailer pop-up events present content and engagement activities while parked at or in front of designated spaces such as parking spaces, parking lots, and parks or courtyards.
